Becoming a DJ

Have you ever wondered why DJ's are so highly paid?
Have you ever thought that's easy, anyone can put a record on, I could do it?
Well these next few pages may help you to understand a little more about the skill of DJ'ing.

I have been a DJ for many years now. I started in a dark and dingey little club in Bath, called the Underground Club, which then became the Cactus Club.

These clubs specialised in 'Alternative' music, it was the late 1980's and lots of punk and goth types frequented the club. One night the resident DJ (Chad) asked if I wanted to have a go, drunkenly I agreed. He gave me a quick tour of the turntables and mixer and then he disappeared into the darkness of the club for the best part of an hour!!. It was a baptism of fire but it did me good, with in a few weeks I was also working at the club one night a week. So there you go anyone can do it......Not really.

I had been involved in music for a few years, I sang in a band and had a huge record collection, and in those days it wasn't how you played the music but what you played. Times quickly changed, the DJ 's of the ninties and present day have become music creators in effect they make the music as much as the bands that perform 'Live'.
